Centre Women's Soccer was out for revenge on Thursday after letting a Senior Day game slip away against Oglethorpe 11 days prior. The Colonels righted the ship when it mattered most on Thursday with a dominating 3-0 win to advance to the semifinals of the SAA Tournament.
Alexis Kronenthal started the offensive attack with a shot in the 3rd minute. Although the try went wide, it was merely foreshadowing what was to come on this day. The Colonels took advantage on their next try as
Ella Mann was able to find space and fire a shot to the net to give Centre the lead in the 10th minute. The lead doubled in the 21st minute as
Claire Mullen slipped a pass over to
Zara McCarthy, who sent it home for the 2-0 lead. McCarthy nearly had another just 19 seconds later but a diving stop kept the ball out. Centre kept charging as Mann and
Claire Cavacini both had looks near the 30th minute. Although both were stopped, the message was clear: Centre wanted more. The Colonels settled for the 2-0 lead going to the second half.
The final 45 minutes proved similar to the first as Centre kept shooting and looking for the decisive goal to seal the win. The Colonels got it in the 77th minute when
Nicole Limehouse set up
Mary Martin Hampton in the box for that third goal of the night to send Centre to the semifinal.
As was the case in the first matchup, Centre dominated the ball and shots. This time, the shot edge was 15-4 to the Colonels and 7-2 on goal.
Madeline Redmon made 2 routine saves to pick up another shut out win.
The Colonels now get set to take on top-seed Trinity for a berth in the championship. Trinity won a tightly-contested 2-0 game on October 11th. Kickoff from Memphis in the semifinal is set for 12:30pm and can be viewed by clicking
