DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre men's basketball picked up its seventh win of the season as the Colonels cruised to an 89-63 victory over the Thomas Terriers in game 1 of the Lee's Famous Recipe Classic.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels got off to a hot start as
Landen Hamilton and
Drake Ingram each connected on three-pointers before the first media timeout to lift Centre to an early 10-4 lead.
- Layups by Hamilton and
Graham Krezmien capped off an early 9-0 spurt for the Colonels who increased the lead to double digits at 16-4.
- Centre continued to pound away at Thomas, dominating the glass and adding to the lead, going ahead by 20 points for the first time at 28-8 on a three-point play by
Nolan Wahl.
- The lead stayed near the 20-point margin for the rest of the half.
Ryan Shene buried a three to give Centre its largest lead of the half at 41-19 and the Colonels led 41-21 going into the break.
- The Colonels kept the momentum going in the second half, gradually adding to their large lead. Centre went ahead by 30 points on a driving score by Hamilton before the first media timeout of the half and eventually led by as many as 42 points on an inside basket from Wahl.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- 15 different Centre players got into the scoring column. Hamilton led the way, tying for a game high with 14 points.
- The Colonels shared the ball well, assisting on 19 of 32 made baskets. Izaiyah Villafuerte led all players with six helpers.
- Centre held a 53-37 advantage on the boards, with Wahl and
Johnny Djema each pulling down five offensive rebounds.
