DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's track & field kicked off a new season inside Champions Hall as they faced a field of teams from several divisions at the Centre First Chance meet. Although the meet was not scored, that did not stop the Centre men from stacking up excellent performances, with two new school records set in field events.
In the sprints, the men's 60m saw
Jayden Channer get the win with a time of 6.86, with
Beau Brown,
Jackson Heim and
Brayden Carman all clocking inside the individual top eight. In the 200m it was Brown who led the way, finishing with a time of 21.81 to get the win, with Heim and Carman each finishing inside the top five. In the 400m,
Teague Roth paced the Colonels with a time of 53.11 to finish second overall, with
Julian Veliquette and
Austin Cranmore also finishing inside the overall top eight.
Centre had the top two finishers in the men's 60m hurdles.
Justin Lewis picked up the win with a time of 8.52, followed by Veliquette in second at 8.79.
Next up were the middle and long distance races, and the Colonels got another win on the men's side as
Reeve VanDemark took first place in the 800m with a time of 2:00.35, with
Gabe Gutierrez and
Baxter Keith also finishing inside the overall top eight. In the men's 5k, the Colonels had the top two finishes in the race as
Jackson Luskin won with a time of 16:10.96, with
Aidan Taylor finishing just over seven seconds later.
Moving onto throws, the first record of the day to fall for the Centre men came in the shot put as
David Harless surpassed the record he set last season, putting forth a mark of 52-7.5 (16.04m) to get the win alongside the new school record.
Luke Cole had a mark of 51-6 (15.7m) that also surpassed the previous school record. In the weight throw,
Terique Murphy-Adams led the way for the Centre men as he finished fifth with a mark of 48-4 (14.73m).
In the jumping events,
Cree Ross led the way for Centre in the long jump, posting a mark of 22-5.25 (6.84m) to get the win. Ross also picked up where he left off in the triple jump as last year's All-American earned another win with a mark of 47-8.5 (14.54m). The Centre men got another victory in the pole vault as
Eden Silver won after clearing 13-7.5 (4.15m). Finally, in the high jump, freshman
Tykeem Taul-Williams had an amazing debut as he set a new school record in the event with a clear of 6-6.75 (2.00m), with
Michael Smith and
Isaac Johnson giving Centre the 1-2-3 finish.
