Women's track wins Centre Indoor Invite with five school records

DANVILLE, Ky. - It was an eventful weekend for Centre women's track & field at the Centre Indoor Invite and Multis, as the Colonels set five program records on the way to a team victory.

In the Friday session, the first record to fall came in the pentathlon as Serena McNeilly shattered her previous indoor program record by accumulating 3,364 points. During the pentathlon, McNeilly added another school record to her name as she recorded a clear of 5-7.25 in the high jump, adding an inch to her previous school record.

Another program record came in the women's 4x200m relay as the team of Madjo Doumbia, Chloe Hein, Faith Peterson and Amari Robinson clocked in at 1:44.28, besting the school record that had stood since 2014. The women's distance medley relay squad of Erin Haugh, Ainsley Wilson, Emma Musgrave and Sophie Bouldin finished second with a time of 12:55.73.

After contributing to a record in the 4x200m relay, Doumbia did it again in the 400m with a post-conversion time of 57.53 to break her 2024 record in the event by almost two full seconds. Peterson, Wilson and Hein also finished in the overall top seven to give Centre a total of 26 points in the race. In the 200m, Robinson was the top finisher for Centre as she posted a time of 27.27 to finish sixth. In the 60m, Robinson was the top D3 finisher in the field with a time of 8.07 for third place, with Peterson taking seventh place.

In the 60m hurdles, Lyla Bordwine finished with a time of 9.89 to take fourth place, with Callie Gormley and Janea Bottinelli each finishing in the top seven as well.

In the 5k, the Colonels had four of the eight scoring times, led by Cara Taylor, who won with a time of 19:14.65, with Rachel Gaynor, Claire Barnett and Maddie Riley all getting into the scoring column as well. In the 800m it was Haugh who led the way for Centre and paced the D3 competitors with a time of 2:28.40 to finish fourth, with Musgrave and Kate Keller finishing in the top eight. The women's 3000m saw Bouldin take fourth place with the fastest D3 time at 10:41.35, followed by Gracie West in sixth place.

The long jump saw Hein pick up the win with a mark of 18-10.5, with Gormley coming in fourth at 16-8.75 for 15 more points for the Colonels. In the triple jump, McNeilly earned another win with a mark of 38-3.75, with Marie De Amour Manirakiza and Arden Campbell each finishing in the top six to give Centre an additional 19 points.

In the shot put, Zoey Shahid-Scott had the best throw of the day for Centre and every other Division III school in the field with a mark of 36-6.25, with Caeley Wilson taking eighth place.

The final event of the day was the 4x400m relay and the Colonels capped off the meet in style with another school record as the team of Bottinelli, Doumbia, Peterson and Wilson winning in 4:00.14.

The Colonels will compete in the Wittenberg Invitational on Feb. 22 in their final meet before the SAA Indoor Championships.
