DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre baseball extended its winning streak to 11 games as the Colonels knocked off the Asbury Eagles by a football score of 14-7 under the lights at Gary Wright Field.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels dug an early 2-0 hole in the first inning, but answered in a big way on their first trips to the plate.
Ayden Lohr led things off with a solo home run to instantly cut the deficit in half. After a
Ben Prather single,
Evan Weyler doubled off the wall to tie the game. He later scored on an RBI triple from
Chase Austin to give Centre the lead.
- The rally continued as
Jonah Porter walked and stole second to put runners on first and second.
Jamison Craig then drove them in on a double and the freshman scored on the same play following a two-base error, making it a 6-2 game.
- Centre added another in the second after Prather singled, advanced to third on a wild pickoff throw and beat the throw home on an attempted force out.
- Asbury refused to go away, hitting a solo homer in the third and getting a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 7-5.
- In the fifth, Prather came up with
JT Weisberg on second and Lohr on first, and delivered a massive home run over the left field wall to double up the score again at 10-5.
- Following walks to Weisberg and Weyler in the seventh,
Evan Rygalski doubled off the championship banners in right field to drive in a pair. Austin then hit a blooper over the shortstop's head for an RBI single to make it 13-5.
- The final run of the game was scored by
Forrest Day after a pair of Asbury errors.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels used 14 hits to score their 14 runs. Prather led the way with four hits, with two each from Lohr, Austin and Craig.
- Zach Havern got the win for the Colonels out of the pen, striking out five in three innings of relief while not allowing any earned runs.
