Track teams take home major postseason honors from SAA

ATLANTA – Earlier this week the Southern Athletic Association released its postseason awards for indoor track & field and Centre's conference championship winning teams had three of the six major award winners as voted on by the league's coaches.
 
On the men's side, freshman David Harless was named Newcomer of the Year. Harless had an auspicious debut to his Centre career as he broke two indoor program records with marks of 49-7.75 (15.13m) in the shot put and 54-5.5 (16.6m) in the weight throw. Harless earned a pair of All-SAA nods at this season's conference championships, finishing second in the shot put and third in the weight throw.
 
The Centre women had two athletes receive major awards. Senior Madjo Doumbia was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Year after scoring the most points at the conference championship meet. Doumbia has rewritten the Centre women's track records section in the sprinting events, picking up school records this season in the 60m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 4x200m relay and 4x400m relay. She qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in both the 60m and 200m.
 
Sophomore Serena McNeilly was named co-winner of the Women's Field Athlete of the Year. McNeilly broke a pair of school records this season, posting a mark of 5-8.5 (1.74m) in the high jump and scoring 3,364 points in the pentathlon. McNeilly has qualified for the NCAA indoor Championships in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.

Finally, the league released its All-Sportsmanship teams for indoor track and Centre's representatives were Max Germann on the men's side and Lyla Bordwine on the women's side.
