Colonels come from behind to top Petrels 13-12

ATLANTA – Centre baseball played the wildest game of the 2025 season so far as the Colonels picked up their 15th win of the year with a 13-12 comeback victory over the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- As they have done most of the season, the Colonels got off to a hot start. It began in the top of the second as Evan Weyler led of with a base hit the other way. Jonah Porter then took the first pitch he saw and deposited it over the left field fence for a 2-0 Centre lead. Matthew Maggard followed that up with a single up the middle, eventually ending up on third after a wild pitch. With two outs, Ayden Lohr beat out an infield hit to drive in Maggard and make it a 3-0 game.
- Centre kept it up in the fourth as Weyler doubled into the gap and scored on an RBI single by Porter. With Porter on third, Aaron Lopez singled for Centre's fifth run of the game. A pair of wild pitches moved Lopez to third and he scored after an opposite field base hit by JT Weisberg. The final Centre run of the inning scored following a two-out error by the Petrels and Centre took a 7-0 lead.
- The Petrels got a run back in the third following two singles and an error, but Centre answered in the fifth as Lopez worked a leadoff walk. Lohr came up with two outs and belted a two-run homer to the opposite field for a 9-1 lead.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Oglethorpe cut into the lead with a three-run home run. They then rallied to tie the game with five runs in the sixth.
- Centre showed good poise in the seventh, loading the bases after Jamison Craig and Lopez were hit by pitches and Baylor Woodall walked following a ten-pitch at-bat. Lohr drove in Craig with a sacrifice fly and then Ben Prather lined one up the middle for an RBI single and Centre went back on top 11-9.
- Oglethorpe fired right back in the bottom of the seventh as a Centre error kept the inning alive and the Petrels took advantage with three straight hits and a 12-11 lead.
- Once again with backs against the wall, Centre delivered another counter punch, starting when Porter led off with a double down the line. Lopez walked and Woodall singled to load the bases and Weisberg drove in the tying run with an RBI groundout to score speedy pinch runner Carson Mire.
- Prather moved to the mound and struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth. He then led off the top of the ninth with a base hit to start one final rally, stealing second and advancing to third on an error. Chase Austin came through with a shot up the middle for a hit and Prather came around for the go-ahead run.
- The drama ended in the ninth as Prather set Oglethorpe down in order to lock down the victory.
