SAVANNAH, Ga.- On Tuesday afternoon, the men's golf team returned to the Savannah Country Club to round out their play in the Port City Classic, hosted by Berry College. Entering round three in fourth, the Colonels held firm to remain in fourth, tying with Hampden-Sydney (B) with a team score of 905 (307-297-301).
By the end of round three, Centre men's golf ranked first as team birdies with a total of 36. The Colonels also ranked in the top 5 for par-5 scoring, averaging 4.80 a round.
Carnegie Mellon (B) and Oglethorpe (B) shared the tie for first with team scores of 891. NC Wesleyan remained in third with a combined mark of 903.
Jiles Wyatt's jumped three spots up the individual leader board to land in a tie for fifth. The senior's consistent shooting allowed a final mark of 222 after recording a 74 in every round. At the end of his play, Wyatt tied for a tournament high in total birdie with ten.
Joshua Peters improved to second within the Colonels' line-up, placing 15
th outright on the individual leader board. In every round, the senior shaved a stroke off to allow for a final mark of 225 (76-75-74).
Harrison Akers cracked the top 25 with a completed score of 227 (78-72-77). The junior tied for 17
th individually while also tying for fifth on the par-4 leader board, averaging 4.24.
Rounding out Centre's line-up,
Ben Bevington moved 13 spots up the leader board to tie for 38
th with a combined mark of 233(81-76-76).
James Folz closed in a tie for 87 with a final score of 248(79-87-82).
MONDAY RECAP
Monday morning, the Centre men's golf team opened their 2025 championship season in the Port City Classic, held at the Savannah Country Club. After 36-holes in day one, the Colonels rest in fourth place with a team score of 604 (307-297).
Carnegie Mellon (B) and Oglethorpe (B) currently share a tie for first with team scores of 596. NC Wesleyan holds the third seed with a combined mark of 600. Four teams were unable to finish their play due to darkness and rankings reflect the play that was completed.
Jiles Wyatt leads the Colonels through day one. The senior landed in a tie for 8
th with an opening score of 148 (74-74). Heading into his final round, Wyatt ranks fourth in the tournament for total birdies with six.
Harrison Akers followed Wyatt closely with a combined mark of 150 (78-74), placing him in a tie for 14
th. Entering round three, the junior ranks first out of 94 athletes for his performance on par-4 holes, averaging 4.05 a round.
Joshua Peters is the final Colonel to crack the top-25. In his opening two rounds, Peters recorded a 151 (76-75) to slot him in a tie for 17
th.
Rounding out the Colonels' line-up is
Ben Bevington and
James Folz. Bevington shaved off five strokes in-between his two round to slot him in a tie for 51
st with a mark of 157 (81-76). Folz rests in a tie for 87
th with a 36-hole score of 166 (79-87).
