MEMPHIS, Tenn.- The Colonels returned to the Mirimichi Golf Course on Tuesday to round out their play in the Rhodes Spring Classic. Making the largest jump by any team, Centre men's golf placed second out of 11 programs with a final mark of 899 (307-302-290)
Transylvania held firm in first, finishing just one stroke under the Colonels with a score of 898. Southern Virginia rounded out the top three teams with a team mark of 901.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Centre was the best performing team in par 5 scoring with an average of 4.87 and second best in total pars with 204. Thanks to rookie
Evan Avret, the Colonels recorded the most Eagles as the freshman sank two in his final 18-holes.
Harrison Akers led the tournament through all three rounds, finishing his play as the only athlete under par. In his final round, Akers recorded 16 pars, a birdie, and one bogey, allowing for an undisputed first place finish with a score of 215 (73-70-72). At the end of his play, the junior was the best performer on par 4 holes, averaging 4.03 a round.
Evan Evret jumped four slots up the leaderboard in his final 18-hole, landing in a tie for ninth with a final score of 226 (78-75-73). In his third round, the rookie sank two Eagles, one on hole two, the second on hole 18, making him the leading athlete in that statistic.
Jack Butts matched his round one score of 76 in round three. Shooting no worse than a bogey on any hole, the Colonel finished in a tie for 22
nd with a combined mark of 232 (76-80-76).
Jiles Wyatt made the largest jump up the leaderboard within Centre's line-up, bypassing15 seeds to finish in a tie for 26
th. The senior shaved 11 strokes off between rounds two and three, allowing for a final score of 235 (80-83-72).
Rounding out the Colonels' roster,
Charlie Morgan placed 43
rd with a score of 242 (82-77-83) while
Joshua Peters improved to 64
th with a mark of 153 (X-80-73).
MONDAY RECAP
On Monday, Centre men's golf traveled south to take part in the Rhodes Spring Invite, hosted at the Mirimichi Golf Course. After 36-holes, the Colonels rest in fourth as a team with a team score of 609 (307-302).
After day one, the Gold & White rank first as a team in par 3s with 3.32 a round and third in par 5s with an average of five.
Rhodes and Transylvania tied for first with matching scores of 603 while Southern Virginia landed in third with a team mark of 604.
Harrison Akers not only led Centre but the entire tournament in day one, ranking first out of the 65 competing student-athletes. Finishing round one a stroke over, the junior shot two under in round two to finish even with a day one score of 143 (73-70). After his 36-holes, Akers ranks first overall for total birdies with a grand total of seven. The Tennessee native also placed second on both the par 4 and par 5 individual leaderboard.
Evan Avret tied for 13
th with a completed score of 153 (78-75). After his two rounds, Avret ranks 5
th in the invitational for total pars with 24.
Jack Butts was the final Colonel within the field's top 25, tying for 20
th with a day one mark of 156 (76-80). The sophomore presently ranks eighth individually for his performance in par 5 scoring.
Charlie Morgan settled into a tie for 30
th, putting together a score of 159 (82-77). Before round three, Morgan ranks fourth individually for total pars with 25.
Rounding out the Colonels' line-up,
Jiles Wyatt tied for 41
st with a score of 163 (80-83).
Joshua Peters did not compete in his opening round. Shooting an 80 in round two, the senior ranked 65
th with an incomplete score of 80.
