Two more records fall for Centre men at Twilight meet

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's track & field participated in one final tune-up before the conference championships as the Colonels hosted the Centre Twilight. The meet was not scored, but Centre turned in many strong performances on Senior Day, including a pair of new school records.
 
In the 100m, Blake Busson turned in the top time for the Colonels, clocking in at 10.81 to finish second, followed by Cree Ross in fifth and Isaac Johnson in eighth. In the 200m, Corbin Ison led the way for Centre with a time of 22.70 to finish fifth, with Aiden Finley taking eighth place. The men's 400m saw Hunter Foster take second place with a time of 50.99, followed by Teague Roth in fifth.
 
The Colonels picked up a few wins in the middle and long distance races. In the 800m, Reeve VanDemark got the win with a time of 1:57.69, followed by Jacob Lloyd in fifth place. In the 1500m, Liam Black earned the victory with a time of 4:08.36, with James Schroeder taking second place and Cole Roberson finishing sixth. In the 5k, Walker Jones led the way for Centre, finishing fourth with a time of 17:30.22, followed immediately by Joe Brandel in fifth.
 
The first school record to fall came in the 110m as Justin Lewis posted a time of 14.81 to put his name in the record books for the first time. Previous record holder Dirk Gambrel also posted a personal best time in the race, finishing 0.01 seconds behind Lewis. In the 400m hurdles, Gambrel got the win with a time of 53.12.
 
Centre earned victories in both relays. In the 4x100m, Johnson, Ross and Busson teamed with Nick Whitlow to post a time of 42.59 for the win. In the 4x400m, the team of Foster, Ison, Gambrel and Heim won with a time of 3:20.61.
 
The Colonels had another strong display in the jumps. In the high jump, Johnson finished second overall with a clear of 6-2.75 (1.90m), followed by Michael Smith in third place. Alex Hibbens got the win in the pole vault after clearing 13-8.25 (4.17m), with Ison taking third. In the long jump, Jacob Rogers paced the Centre men with a mark of 20-2.25 (6.15m) to take second place, followed by Carter Chandler in fourth. Ross picked up the win for the Colonels in the triple jump with a mark of 47-1 (14.35m), with Rogers taking third place.
 
The final record of the day came in the discus as David Harless broke a long-standing school high mark with a throw of 157-11 (48.14m) to get the win, with Damien Josaphat taking fourth. In the shot put, Harless was the high man again for Centre as he finished second with a throw of 52-1.25 (15.88m) to take second place, followed by Luke Cole in sixth and Tyler Vaughn in seventh. The hammer had four Centre throwers in the top eight, led by Harless in third with a mark of 153-4 (46.75m), followed by Xavier Hayden in fourth, Terique Murphy-Adams in sixth and Cole in eighth. Finally, in the javelin, Erik Backstrom had a throw of 162-3 to take second place, with Cole finishing third.
