WILMORE, Ky. – On the heels of receiving a program high national ranking of no. 12 in today's ABCA poll, the Centre baseball team followed that up with their sixth win in a row, defeating the Asbury Eagles 6-1 to improve to 25-7 on the season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels wasted little time getting on the board as
Ben Prather and
Graham Johnson led off the game with consecutive singles.
Jonah Porter was hit by a pitch to load the bases and a two-out single by
Chase Austin put Centre on top 1-0.
- Asbury answered with three hits and a run in the second to tie the game before Centre responded in kind in the third. Johnson led off with a base hit and eventually scored on an error. Following the error,
Evan Weyler stole third and scored after a sacrifice fly by
Jonah Porter to put the Colonels on top 3-1.
- Centre kept up the attack in the fourth as they loaded the bases on singles by Prather and
JT Weisberg and a walk to Johnson.
Ayden Lohr delivered a base hit that brought home two runs and the Colonels grabbed a 5-1 advantage.
- From there, things calmed down until the ninth when Centre added another run after
Evan Weyler tripled and
Evan Rygalski legged out an infield hit to score Weyler and provide the final margin.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- All four of Centre's pitchers in tonight's game struck out at least two Asbury hitters, led by
Zach Heavern and
TJ Schira with three each.
- Prather, Johnson and
Baylor Woodall all finished with multiple hits. Weyler's triple in the ninth was the only extra-base hit of the game for the Colonels.
