Centre men place fourth at SAA Championships

DICKSON, Tenn.- On Sunday, Centre men's golf initiated their final round of the 2025 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championships. Entering the round in fourth, the Colonels held firm to finish fourth overall with a completed score of 875 (299-286-290).
 
At the end of the tournament, the Centre men ranked second as a team in par 3 play. 
 
Sewanee took first with a score of 840 (277-283-280). Oglethorpe placed second with a score of 846 (282-279-285) while Berry rounded out the top three with a score of 861 (293-284-284).
 
Joshua Peters placed first within the Colonels' line-up. The senior improved in every round, finishing round three one under par and a final mark of 217 (74-72-71). After tallying 15 pars in day three, the Colonel improved to second on the par leaderboard with a grand total of 27 pars. 
 
Harrison Akers ranked second within Centre's line-up. The junior tied for 15th with a final score of 218 (75-69-74). 
 
Charlie Reber tallied Centre's only Eagle of the tournament, sinking it on hole 12 in round three. Adding to his Eagle, Reber tallied four birdies to counteract his troubles on his front nine. At the end of his play, the senior finished in a tie for 15th with a score of 218 (73-72-73).
 
Jack Butts improved between every round, scratching an even par in round three. The sophomore tied for 27th with a final score of 226 (81-83-72).
 
Rounding out Centre's line up, Dylan McGrath placed 34th with a score of 233 while Jiles Wyatt took the 37th seed with a score of 235.
 
 
SATURDAY RECAP 
On Saturday, the Centre men's golf team entered day two of the SAA Championships. Shaving off 13 strokes between their two rounds, the Colonels improved to fourth with a team mark of 585 (299-286).

After round two, the top three teams remain the same, Sewanee leading the Championships with a team score of 560, Oglethorpe in second with a 561, and Berry in third with a 577.
 
Harrison Akers jumped eight seeds up the leaderboard after shaving six strokes off between his two rounds. The junior rests in a tie for 12thwith a score of 144 (75-69) and continues to lead the tournament in total pars with 27.
 
Charlie Reber also improved between his two rounds, shaving a stroke off to put together a combined mark of 145 (73-72). The sophomore enters round three in 14th place.
 
Joshua Peters balanced out three bogeys with three birdies to shoot an even par in round two. Entering his final 18-holes, the senior rests in a tie for 15th with a score of 146 (74-72). 
 
Dylan McGrath shifted two spots up the leaderboard after shooting a 75 in day two. The senior enters his final round of the SAA Championships in 29th with a score of 152 (77-75).
 
Rounding out Centre's roster, Jack Butts improved drastically between his two rounds, resting in 33rd with a score of 154 (81-73) while Jiles Wyatt sits in 39th with score of 161 (79-82). 
 
FRIDAY RECAP 
On Friday morning, the Centre men's golf team arrived at the Greystone Golf Club to open their play in the 2025 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Conference Championships. Battling the league and weather, the Colonels completed their initial 18-holes with a score of 299, landing in fifth place ahead of their second day of play. 

Entering day two, the Gold & White lead the tournament as the best performing team in par 3 scoring. 

Sewanee currently leads the Championships with a team score of 277. Oglethorpe rests in second with a combined mark of 282 while Berry rounds out the top three with a team score of 293. 

Charlie Reber led the Colonels through round one, finishing just one over par. The sophomore shot no worse than a bogey on any hole to land in a tie for 18th with a score of 73. 

Joshua Peters and Harrison Akers followed Reber closely, Peters shooting a 74 and Akers with a mark of 75. Entering round two, Peters sits in a tie for 16th while Akers rests in a tie for 20th. After his initial 18-holes, Akers leads the tournament for total pars with 15. 

Dylan McGrath tied for 31st after shooting a 77 in round one. Entering round two, McGrath ranks in the top 15 for his performance on par 3 holes, averaging three a round. 

Rounding out the Colonels' line-up, Jiles Wyatt tied for 35th with a score of 79 while Jack Butts took 38th outright with a score of 81. Butts is currently tied for third on the par 3 leaderboard and shares the tie for third with Wyatt on the birdie leaderboard with four each.
