DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's track & field hosted the first of two outdoor meets this month with the Centre Invitational, where they pulled away to a comfortable victory.
The Colonels earned their victory today with 233 points, besting second place Wittenberg by almost 100 points.
Beginning with the sprints,
Blake Busson improved on his prelim time with a third place time of 11.02 in the 100m. In the 200m,
Jackson Heim finished second overall with a time of 21.96, followed by
Corbin Ison in seventh. Heim picked up a win as he posted a time of 48.37 to take first place in the 400m, with Ison finishing seventh again.
In the middle and long distance races,
Jacob Lloyd took seventh place in the 800m with a time of 2:00.49. In the 1500m,
Liam Black finished fourth with a time of 4:11.27, with
Mitchell Chaffin taking sixth place. The 5k saw
Max Germann take second place with a time of 16:26.70, followed by
Baxter Keith in third,
Joe Brandel in fifth and
Walker Jones in seventh. Centre also posted the top two times in the 10k, with
Ike Synnestvedt winning in 33:56.02, followed by
Aidan Taylor in second. In the 3000m steeplechase,
Reeve VanDemark picked up the win with a time of 9:36.51, with
Cole Roberson finishing third.
In the 110m hurdles,
Dirk Gambrel finished second overall with a time of 15.36, followed 0.2 seconds later by
Justin Lewis in third. Lewis later picked up a victory in the 400m with a time of 56.42.
The men's 4x400m relay saw Ison, Lewis and Heim team with
Teague Roth to finish second with a time of 3:23.91.
In the high jump,
Isaac Johnson took second place overall with a clear of 6-0.75 (1.85m). The pole vault saw Centre pick up a victory as
Alex Hibbens cleared 4.32m (14-2) to get the win. In the long jump,
Carter Chandler finished second overall with a mark of 19-8 (5.99m), followed by
Jacob Rogers in fifth and
Evan Peters in seventh. Rogers later participated in the triple jump and posted a mark of 40-11.75 to take second place.
The throwing events were huge scoring events for the Centre men. In the shot put,
David Harless earned the victory with a mark of 47-8 (14.53m), followed by
Luke Cole in fourth,
Tyler Vaughn in fifth and
Terique Murphy-Adams in seventh. Harless led the way again in the discus with a throw of 145-1 (44.22m), with Cole taking fourth again. In the hammer, Harless picked up his second victory of the day with a mark of 143-2 (43.63m), followed by Murphy-Adams in fourth,
Xavier Hayden in sixth, Cole in seventh and
Jasper Staley in eighth. Finally, in the javelin it was Cole who got the win with a mark of 174-9, followed by
Erik Backstrom in fourth and Lewis in seventh.
