LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Centre men's golf team entered the final 18 holes at the Transylvania Fall Invite in fourth place and held off a rally from Roanoke to stay in fourth place to cap off the first tournament of the fall season.
Centre finished with a combined team score of 291 on Sunday and a 54-hole tournament score of 880 to finish two shots ahead of Roanoke for the tournament and five shots back of third place Rose-Hulman.
Individually, Centre's low man for the tournament was
Charlie Reber. After posting a pair of ever par rounds of 72 on Saturday, Reber shot a 73 on the final round to finish the tournament with a score of 217 to tie for fifth place overall.
For the final round, Centre's lowest scorers on the Sunday session were freshmen
Drew Edwards and
Peyton Toon, both of whom fired rounds of 71 to climb up the individual leaderboard. Edwards got off to a hot start on Sunday with birdies on three of the first seven holes, ending his tournament with a 54-hole score of 220 to tie for 13th. After a double bogey on his first hole, Toon shot three under par for the rest of his round, including a birdie on his last hole to move into the individual top 30 with a tournament score of 224.
Harrison Akers gave Centre three players in the individual top 20 as he posted a score of 76 on Sunday and a tournament score of 223, tying for 20th overall.
Jack Butts rounded out the scores for the Colonels as he shot a round of 79 on Sunday to finish with a 54-hole score of 231.
