After a late goal denied Centre a win on Saturday at Denison, the Colonels' D returned to form on Sunday in Cincinnati. Combined with a second half tally from
Claire Mullen, Centre took down Mount St. Joseph, 1-0, to improve to 6-0-1 on the season.
The Colonels started aggressive on offense with 3 shots in the first 6 minutes.
Alexis Kronenthal nearly had a goal approaching the 7th minute, but the MSJ keeper was able to get a hand up and flip the ball over the crossbar. From there, the teams traded possession and found quality looks tough to come by. MSJ mustered a single shot attempt in the half.
Grace Plummer had a go on goal in the 44th minute, but the save was routine as the match went scoreless into the 2nd half.
Riley Givens nearly gave Centre the lead just 55 seconds into the second half as her shot went to the upper corner of the goal, but the MSJ keeper was able to get a glove on it to deny.
Tessa Miles went top shelf shopping in the 55th minute but met the same result. The Colonels continued to attack and finally saw it pay off when
Claire Mullen fired a shot home in the 67th minute to break the tie.
Madeline Redmon needed only 2 saves over the final 22 minutes to preserve another shutout and the win.
The Colonels return to Amend Field to play under the lights next Friday against North Central with a scheduled kickoff at 7:00pm.
