On a muggy, wet, Wednesday night at Amend Field, Centre Women's Soccer took on local rival Asbury. The Colonels dominated from the outset and rolled to a 5-0 to improve to 9-0-1 on the season.
Claire Cavacini nearly had the Colonels on the board in the first minute but her chip shot was tipped over the bar by the Eagles keeper. Off an ensuing corner kick,
Ella Mann was denied at the doorstep. Centre continued ball dominance until the 12th minute when a Cavacini cross found its way to
Lily Burchett who tapped the ball over the keeper's head for the opening goal.
The pressure kept coming and paid off in the 20th minute thanks to the efforts of
Claire Cavacini.
Tessa Miles flipped a shot on the keeper that was deflected right onto the foot of Cavacini for goal number two on the night. The lead went to 3 in the 23rd minute when
Riley Givens continued her torrid pace with another goal thanks to a brilliant feed from
Annie Walz to send the Colonels to the half with a 3-0 lead.
Tessa Miles found the back of the net with a splendid left foot from just outside the box that clanged off the post and rolled in for a 4-0 lead.
Mary Martin Hampton headed home goal number 5 in the 85th minute off a slick corner ball from
Ella Scott.
Gracie Zutterman started the game and played the first half, tallying a single save.
Madeline Redmon took over in goal for the second half but was never threatened. Centre finished the night with a total shot edge of 23-2, including 12-1 on goal. The Colonels also had 9 corners to just 2 for the Eagles.
They now get set for a big showdown on Saturday as #5 Washington University comes to Amend Field. Kickoff is set for Noon.
