Riley Givens and
Claire Cavacini tallied clutch 2nd half goals as Centre knocked off DePauw, 2-0, in a battle of unbeatens on Sunday afternoon in Greencastle, IN.
The teams traded possessions and advancements in the early going with scoring chances hard to come by. The first registered shot attempt came from
Mary Martin Hampton in the 9th minute, but the try sailed wide left. The Colonels nearly had a goal in the 27th minute when
Claire Cavacini ripped a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced away. It was the Colonels last threat of the half and after 2 saves from
Madeline Redmon in goal, the game remained scoreless at the break.
Centre struck early in the 2nd half as
Riley Givens found space and ripped a shot to the back of the net in the 48th minute to give the Colonels the 1-0 lead.
Claire Cavacini put the finishing touches on the win with her 3rd goal of the season in the 79th minute. The vaunted Colonel defense then took over, not allowing a single try to DePauw the rest of the way to seal the win.
The Colonels held a total shot advantage of 11-6 in the win, while only allowing 1 corner kick as DePauw was trying to rally in the 2nd half.
Centre returns to Amend Field on Wednesday night to battle Transylvania in an effort to move to 5-0-0 on the year. Such a result would be the Colonels' best start since 2019, when the team won its first 21 matches of the year. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
