Men's track rallies to win Indoor Showcase

DANVILLE, Ky. – The incoming winter storm forced Centre men's track & field to move this year's Centre Indoor Showcase up one day to Friday Night, and the Colonels rallied for a close win in the final stages.
 
Centre finished with a combined team score of 145 points, besting Campbellsville by three points thanks to a win in the final race of the night.
 
In the sprints, All-American triple jumper Cree Ross took third place in the 60m with a time of 7.07, with Beau Brown finishing seventh. In the 200m it was Jayden Channer who led the way for Centre, finishing third overall with a time of 22.80. In the 400m, freshman Stephen Jones posted the top time for Centre, finishing fourth in 53.41, with Justin Lewis in fifth and Julian Veliquette in eighth.
 
In the lone distance race of the night, Chase Sweger placed seventh overall in the 3000m with a time of 10:23.33.
 
The men's 60m hurdles saw Lewis take second place with a time of 8.45, followed closely by Veliquette in third place.
 
The highest scoring events for the Colonels on the men's side were the jumps. Tykeem Taul-Williams won the high jump for the second meet in a row after clearing 6-4.75 (1.95m), with Isaac Johnson and Michael Smith giving Centre a 1-2-3 finish. In the pole vault, Eden Silver picked up the win with a clear of 13-11.25 (4.25m). Another 1-2-3 finish for the Colonels came in the long jump as Ross got the win with a mark of 22-6.25 (6.86m), followed by Johnson and Channer.
 
In the shot put, David Harless was two inches away from tying his record mark in the event as he picked up the win with a mark of 52-5.5 (15.99), with Luke Cole coming in third place. Harless got his second win of the night in the weight throw as he posted a mark of 52-10.75 to finish in first, with Cole, Xavier Hayden, Tyler Garner and Devan Young all getting into the scoring column in the event.
 
The Centre men trailed Campbellsville by two points going into the final race of the night, and in the 4x400m relay, Veliquette, Jones, Lewis and Austin Cranmore finished fourth in 3:36.44 to give the Colonels five points they needed to pull ahead for the win.

The Colonels will be back in action on Jan. 31 as they head to Wittenberg for the Steemer Showcase.
