Colonels sweep Scots for 12th straight win

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Centre volleyball team kept their winning streak going as they improved to 22-1 on the year and 13-1 in conference play after defeating the Maryville Scots in straight sets. The second-ranked Colonels have now won 12 consecutive matches and 14 consecutive sets.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- In the opening set, the Scots controlled the game in the early stages as they scored the first four points. Maryville held onto the lead until an 8-2 Centre run put the Colonels on top 21-19. The teams traded points until the score was tied at 23-23. Kendra Christopher forced a set point with a kill and the next Maryville attack was errant to give Centre a 25-23 win.
- Centre grabbed the early lead in the second set and went up by as many as five points at 17-12 on a kill from Maya Kondik. Maryville responded with six straight points to go on top and eventually led 21-20 before the Centre defense took over as Christopher, Elise Grundy and Mack Turner had blocks in a late 4-0 run, capped off by an ace from Rylee Barnes to force a set point. The Scots fought off the first two set points before Turner delivered a clutch kill to put Centre on top 2-0 with another 25-23 win.
- The third set was considerably easier on the nerves as Centre used an early 9-0 run to take an 11-2 lead and never looked back. The lead reached as many as ten points, where it stayed as a kill from Grundy clinched the 25-15 victory and the match.
