Volleyball sweeps two more conference foes

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Less than 24 hours removed from knocking off no. 8 Berry, no. 14 Centre volleyball improved to 13-1 on the season and 5-1 in conference play after sweeping Oglethorpe and Maryville in straight sets.
 
Game 1: Centre 3, Oglethorpe 0
 
- Centre scored the first three points of the opening set and never looked back, using runs of 5-0 and 6-0 to take the commanding lead. The Colonels scored the final three points to take a 25-13 victory.
- The Colonels had their best offensive set of the season in the second set as they hit .500 as a team. Centre dominated from the jump, scoring 11 of the final 12 points to win 25-9.
- The third set was more of the same as the Colonels grabbed the early lead and kept it. A late run of seven straight points blew the game open and Centre eventually pulled away to a 25-14 win.
 
Game 2: Centre 3, Maryville 0
 
- In the opening set, Centre used an 8-2 midway through the frame to build a nice cushion, with Campbell Miles delivering consecutive aces. Maryville cut the lead to two at 19-17 before Centre responded, scoring five of the next six to force set point. The Colonels scored two points later to win 25-19.
- The second set saw both teams trade the lead back and forth in a close contest. Maryville grabbed a 17-14 lead before Centre rallied for ten of the next 13 to lead 24-20. The Scots fought off two set points before Syd Bietz put home the final kill on a 25-2 win for the Colonels.
- Centre cruised to victory in the third set after taking an early 10-4 lead and never looking back, gradually increasing their advantage as the set progressed. Centre led by as many as 11 points at 22-11 on a block by Elise Grundy before winning 25-14 as Grundy delivered the final two kills to seal the win for the Colonels.

The Colonels will head to Atlanta next week for a pair of conference games against Rhodes and Millsaps.
