LEXINGTON, Ky. - With the release of this afternoon's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, the Centre volleyball team has achieved a new program high ranking of no. 8 in the nation.
The Colonels had been no. 14 in the nation in each of the past two weeks' polls and moved more spots than any other team who climbed up this week's rankings. Now 13-1 on the season, Centre enjoyed a 3-0 weekend at the SAA pod at Berry, defeating then no. 8 Berry in five sets on Friday night before sweeping Oglethorpe and Maryville the following day.
Kendra Christopher was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week after hitting .320 across the three games last week with 18 kills in the marathon win over Berry.
In addition to the no. 8 ranking in the coaches' poll, the Colonels are also ranked no. 6 in the NCAA's NPI index on the strength of their win over Illinois Wesleyan, who is currently ranked no. 2 in the AVCA poll and no. 4 in the NPI index.
Centre will head to Oglethorpe this weekend for matches against Rhodes and Millsaps.
