Centre men overwhelm Oglethorpe in 96-71 win

DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre men's basketball enjoyed a Super Bowl Sunday where just about everything went right for the home team as the Colonels cruised to a 96-71 victory over the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels inside Alumni Gym.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Nolan Wahl carried the scoring load early for the Colonels as he recorded seven of Centre's first nine points of the afternoon.
- The lead changed hands several times in the first seven minutes until Centre exploded with the first big run of the day, outscoring the Petrels 16-2 to go up by double digits for the first time. Six different Centre players scored in the run, including consecutive baskets by both Graham Krezmien and Landen Hamilton before Wahl capped off the rally with a three to make it 33-19.
- Oglethorpe managed just three field goals for the final seven minutes of the half as Centre dominated the glass for the second straight game and extended the lead. A pair of Wahl free throws gave the Colonels a 51-27 lead going into the locker room at the half.
- Centre quickly scored the first seven points of the second half as the lead surpassed 30 points. The lead reached as many as 37 points after a three-pointer from Izaiyah Villafuerte put the Colonels on top 76-39.
- The Colonels emptied their bench early in this one, with every player on the roster logging at least four minutes of action and 17 players getting into the scoring column.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Centre's control of the offensive and defensive glass was the most noteworthy statistic of the day as the Colonels outrebounded their smaller opponents 64-35. It showed in other ways as Centre enjoyed a 28-0 edge in second chance points.
- Wahl led the Colonels with 19 points and finished one rebound shy of his fourth straight double-double.
