Colonels defeat Wilmington 6-4 in midweek clash

DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre baseball's win streak increased to four games on Tuesday night after the no. 12 ranked Colonels defeated the Wilmington Quakers by a score of 6-4.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Wilmington hit the ball well in the early innings of a bullpen game for both teams as they scored one run in each of the first four innings.
- Trailing 2-0 in the second, Graham Johnson led off with a walk and scored one batter later when Evan Rygalski smacked a double off the wall in the power alley. Matthew Maggard went the other way with a base hit to tie the score and eventually scored after Ayden Lohr ran out an infield single to give Centre a 3-2 lead.
- In the third, Aaron Lopez led off with a high chopper for an infield hit. With Lopez on second, Maggard lined a shot up the middle for a single that broke the 3-3 tie.
- The score was tied again in the fourth when Chase Austin smashed an opposite field double into the gap. With two outs, Evan Weyler made another clutch hit after his weekend full of clutch plays as he lined a base hit up the middle to put Centre on top 5-4.
- After missing out on chances with runners in scoring position several times in the late innings, Centre finally took advantage in the eighth to add to their lead. Michael Lynch led off with a walk and pinch runner Wesley Taylor stole second and advanced to third on a balk. With two outs, an error on a throw home allowed Taylor to score to give Centre a 6-4 cushion.
- TJ Schira slammed the door on the Quakers, striking out the side in the ninth to get his second save of the year.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Four different Centre players finished with multiple hits on the night, with Maggard leading the Colonels with two RBIs.
- The Colonels stole six bases against the Quakers, with Lohr and Weyler each picking up two.
- Aidan Carr earned the victory out of the bullpen after pitching four no-hit innings and facing the minimum number of batters and striking out two.
