Esports Recap: 2/28-3/7

3/9/2026 11:30:00 AM

Danville, KY - Centre Esports continued the spring season with another week of exciting matches, mostly inside the Peach Belt Conference. Let's take a look at how the Colonels fared:

League of Legends vs Kennesaw State (2/28/26): Loss 2-0
After a go against the #1 seed last week, Centre faced the #2 seed this week to similar results. The Colnels opened with a comp of Hwei, Urgot, Pantheon, Seraphine, and Maokai. Opening picks all went to KSU. A few trades from Centre later on weren't enough to save things and KSU claimed victory 23 minutes in. In game 2, Centre ran Sion, Jarvin IV, Nasus, Jinx, and Tahm Kench. Game 2 had slightly more favorable trades for Centre, but KSU still managed to build a sizable lead in kills and gold. Around 19:20 in, Metro Mina (Mina Hartman) found 2 massive shutdowns onto KSU's mid and bot lanners. However, a Baron buff and another team fight win allowed KSU to claim the second game and the series at a similar pace to the first.

Valorant vs North Georgia (3/1/26): Win 2-1 (13-6, 11-13, 13-6)
Centre Valorant was set to play a double-header, but the first match was rescheduled instead, but the colonels still ended up going the distance in their 3 map game vs UNG. The colonels had an amazing performance with meowmeowmeowmeow (Aaron Klein) dropping 67 total kills throughout the 3 map series. For the first map bind, Centre dominated the field on the first half with their consistent teamplay and oppressive starts to secure the first map with a score of 13 - 6. UNG switched things on the second map and game themselves a head start of 4 rounds. The Colonels did not back down and found a way to tie the series with meowmeowmeowmeow and Klippy (Vedant Bhagat) giving an excellent performance. But despite their best efforts the Centre came came short in the last round they needed to force overtime—giving UNG the second map 13 - 11. However, after recollecting themselves and an interesting pick to play Astra on pearl by Centre, the colonels turned the tide with Nobleph (Ryan Li) and meowmeowmeowmeow leading the charge in kills. Centre finished 2 - 1 against UNG putting them in a great spot for the season. If Centre comes on top in their next match, the Colonels are guaranteed to go to the championship as the #1 seed.

Rocket League vs Mississippi State (3/4/26): Win 4-0 (3-2, 3-0, 5-3, 4-1)
Centre RL continued their undefeated streak with an important win over the (at the time) #2 seed in the conference standings.

K2Winterpath (Charles McGuin) found the first two goals of the series off passes from sush (grant Walker), but in the second half MSU answered back with two of their own eventually sending things to overtime. A whopping 3:27 seconds into overtime, K2Winterpath found a third goal. MSU looked more aggressive at the start of round 2, but could not find any goals. The first goal came with less than 2 minutes left from ACKess (Adam Kessinger) and 2 more Centre goals followed shortly after. Centre started down 2 goals in game 3, but K2winterpath found 3 to counter. Rafa from MSU tied things up one more time 3-3 making overtime look likely. With 4 seconds left, ACKess gave Centre their lead back and just for good measure Sush managed one more goal off kickoff with 0 seconds on the clock. In game 4, Sush scored again off the opening kickoff only 2 seconds in. 3 more Centre goals followed, creating a lead that MSU could not catch up to. With these 5 undefeated games, playoffs are guaranteed and a #1 seed is in the conversation.

League of Legends vs Augusta (3/7/26): Loss 2-0

This week, the Centre LoL team went up against Augusta in two, unfortunately, one sided matches. The first match Centre utilized a tank heavy team composition, scaling for mid game; on the other hand, Augusta utilized more of a poke damage style composition, scaling for late game. Both teams were on fairly even footing with one another until the 20 minute mark, after Augusta secured the second dragon and a solid gold lead. Despite sophomore JT Taylor, AKA Lumberjack, dealing an astounding 38k damage on Illaoi, Centre failed to secure the kills needed. The second match Centre used a more melee style team composition. Augusta employed more tank aspects into their comp, while maintaining some of their ranged damage. Unlike the first match, Centre scaled for late game, which was not in their best interest as Augusta scaled for early game and took a significant lead by the 15 minute mark. Overall, Centre tried out new things and attempted to adapt to Augusta's strengths, despite the defeat.

The Colonels continue the grind with a series of matches, including 3 scheduled for Marvel Rivals in between March 11th and March 17th. Stay tuned to centrecolonels.com for updated schedule information.
