Women's track wins second straight meet at Berry Field Day

ROME, Ga. – Centre women's track & field pulled off its second consecutive team victory this weekend as the Colonels scored 181 points to win the Berry Field Day and Multis.
 
On Thursday and Friday, two-time national champion Serena McNeilly competed in the women's heptathlon and made program history twice as she destroyed her previous school record in the grueling event, racking up 4,795 points to surpass her previous career high mark in the heptathlon by nearly 400 points. Along the way, McNeilly competed in the high jump and set another program high mark by clearing 5-8.5 (1.74m).
 
In the 400m hurdles, The Colonels had three of the top seven finishers as Rianne Moss got the win with a time of 1:05.01 to win the race by 0.05 seconds, with Arden Campbell and Alexandria Masden each getting into the scoring column.
 
The women's 1500m saw Emma Musgrave finish fifth overall with a time of 4:52.25, followed by Adelyn Shupert in eighth place. To cap off the Friday session on the track, the Colonels had three of the top six finishers in the women's 5k, with Gracie West posting a time of 18:10.79 to finish second overall, combining with Cara Taylor and Mary Darling to give Centre 15 points for the race.
 
In Friday's field events, Lindsey Browning paced the Colonels in the hammer, finishing fifth with a mark of 139-7 (42.55m), followed by Kellaiah Laurent in eighth place.
 
National champion long jumper Chloe Hein picked up her first win of the meet in the triple jump as she posted a mark of 39-5.25 (12.02m) to take first place.
 
Moving onto Saturday on the track, the schedule began with the 4x100m relay and the Centre women got the win as Moss and Hein teamed with Ainsley Wilson and Amari Robinson to finish first place with a time of 47.62.
 
In the 100m hurdles, Moss again led the way for Centre, finishing third overall with a time of 15.71, with Masden taking fifth place 0.4 seconds later.
 
Next up was the 400m and Wilson posted the fastest time for the Colonels, finishing fourth overall with a time of 58.05.
 
In the women's 100m, Hein earned her second victory of the weekend as she crossed the finish line in 12.08 to get the win for Centre, with Robinson coming in fourth place. Hein's third win of the meet came in the 200m, helping the Colonels score ten more points in a tight team meet with a winning time of 24.25.
 
The women's 800m had another team-leading performance from Musgrave, who finished fifth with a time of 2:19.68, with Shupert taking seventh place.
 
A high scoring event for the Centre women came in the 3000m steeplechase as the Colonels produced a 1-2-3 finish. Abbott Renfro got the win with a time of 12:28.57, followed by Layce Sanner and McKinley Richardson for the podium finishes and 24 more points.

For Saturday's field events, first up was the javelin and Hadley Priest threw 107-10 (32.87m) to finish in seventh place.

In the shot put, school record holder Zoey Shahid-Scott came in second place as she posted a mark of 43-5.75, with Shelbi Valentine taking fifth place. Shahid-Scott also took third place in the discus after posting a throw of 132-3 (40.3m)

Another record fell by the wayside in the women's long jump as Hein surpassed her record mark from earlier this season with a first place jump of 20-8 (6.3m), racking up her fourth individual victory of the weekend.
 
The final event was the 4x400m relay and the Colonels came in second place as Alanna Masden teamed with her twin sister Alexandria as well as Moss and Wilson to post a time of 4:00.11.
