Danville, KY - Centre Athletics has announced
Jeremy Carlson '15 as the new Deputy Director of Athletics.
Carlson steps into the role after serving as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sport Performance since January 2023. In that role, Carlson designed, implemented and supervised sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for all Centre student-athletes. He worked with each head coach and Centre's athletic training staff to provide the best quality programming for each student-athlete and sport program. Additionally, Carlson served on the department's leadership team and has been involved with the strategic planning and decision making for Centre Athletics.Â
"I'm incredibly grateful to Brad Fields and the committee—Wendie Austin '94, Phil Havira '16, Jay Hoffman '96, Drew Briese '00, and Morgan DeSpain—for their belief in me to serve in this role," said Carlson. "Centre has always been home, and the people in this athletic department and across campus are family. I'm honored to continue to serve our coaches so they can provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes, and I'm committed to doing so every single day."
Carlson's time at Centre dates back to his days as a standout on the men's soccer team, where he was named the SAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2014, a 4-time All-SAA selection, 3-time 1st Team honoree, and 2-time All-Great Lakes Region nominee. He was also named Centre Male Athlete of the Year in 2014 and a NSCAA Academic All-American. He is also a prior recipient of the David Jones Colonel Award, the department's highest staff honor which recognizes a member of the faculty or staff who makes a major impact on the athletic department and/or teams. It was named in honor of the late David Jones, who had a long, successful run as Centre Men's Golf Head Coach.
Brad Fields '98, Centre College Director of Athletics spoke on Carlson's hiring. "Jeremy is about excellence in all that he does. Jeremy is bright, passionate, and relational and has a deep love for Centre College. Jeremy's talent and his work ethic will translate well to this new role, and Centre Athletics will move forward in stronger and better ways as a result of him becoming Deputy AD."
Carlson was named Centre College's first Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in the summer of 2017. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Carlson has also twice served as the Director of the Buck Fitness Center, previously from 2018-2021 and from 2023-present.
Carlson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History in May 2015. He later earned a Master's Degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from California (PA) University in December 2018. He is now pursuing a Master's Degree in Teaching from the University of Cumberlands.
