Track teams honored thrice in final SAA weekly awards of 2026

ATLANTA - Earlier today the Southern Athletic Association released its final weekly awards of the track & field season and Centre took home three awards this time. David Harless repeated as SAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week, while Amari Robinson and Shelbi Valentine swept the honors on the women's side.

For the second week in a row, David Harless broke his previous school record in the hammer. At the Centre Twilight on Friday, Harless threw an even 54 meters (177-2) to add two feet to his record mark in the event, while moving up 11 spots in the national rankings. At the same meet, Harless also posted winning marks of 164-4 (50.1m) in the discus and 51-7.25 (15.73m) in the shot put. Harless currently tops the SAA performance list in the discus and is ranked second in both the hammer and shot put.

Track Athlete of the Week Amari Robinson had an excellent day of sprints for the Centre women at the Centre Twilight. Robinson posted times of 12.08 in the 100m, 25.84 in the 200m and 47.57 as part of the 4x100m relay, with the 100m time representing a new personal best mark. Robinson currently ranks second in the SAA in both the 100m and 4x100m relay.

Field Athlete of the Week Shelbi Valentine had a pair of personal best marks for the Colonels at the Centre Twilight as she threw 141-11 (43.25m) in the hammer and later won the shot put with a mark of 43-4.25 (13.21m). Both throws moved Valentine up the standings on the SAA performance list, as she currently ranks third in the league in the shot put and fifth in the hammer.

The Colonels will head to Berry to compete in the SAA Championships on Apr. 24-25.
