LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Centre baseball team dug a hole in the middle innings of their intrastate rivalry matchup at Transylvania, rallying late in the game before falling by a score of 8-5.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The game was scoreless through the first two innings as both teams used their bullpens for the duration. In the third, the Pioneers got on the board first, scoring a run on a double followed by an error. Transylvania added to their lead in the fourth with an RBI triple, followed by a two-out rally of four consecutive hits to take a 6-0 lead. A sacrifice fly in the fifth put the home team up by seven.
- The Centre bats woke up in the sixth as the Colonels loaded the bases following walks by
Ayden Lohr and
Aaron Lopez and an infield hit by
Chase Austin. A shot up the middle by
Graham Johnson plated the first two Centre runs of the game.
JT Weisberg drove in another with a double down the line to cut the deficit to 7-3.
- Centre kept the pressure on in the seventh as
Ben Prather led off the inning with a solo home run to make it a 7-4 game, but the Pioneers got the run back in the eighth on a solo shot of their own.
- The top of the order came up in the ninth and Centre loaded the bases on singles from Prather, Lohr and
Evan Weyler. Austin drove in a run with an RBI fielder's choice, but that was as close as the Colonels got for the rest of the inning.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels had four players finish with multiple hits on the evening, led by Austin, who tied for a game high with three.
- Centre pitchers struck out a season high 14 batters, led by a career high five from
John Kosobud.
