ROME, Ga. - The Centre baseball team won its third straight game in the SAA Tournament, defeating the no. 2 seed Rhodes Lynx 9-1 thanks to a massive first inning. The Colonels advanced to the next round and can win the tournament title with one more victory.

Ben Prather connected on a base hit on the very first pitch of the game in what turned out to be a good omen for the Colonels. The next two hitters reached after
Ayden Lohr singled and
Chase Austin walked, loading the bases for
Aaron Lopez, who ripped a base hit to drive in the first two runners of the game.
- After
Evan Weyler walked, the bases were still loaded and Austin scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
Baylor Woodall then walked to load the bases again and the Colonels scored their next run on a Rhodes error.
- An RBI fielder's choice by
Forrest Day made it a 5-0 Centre lead and Centre kept the pressure on as
Jamison Craig singled to drive in another run. With two outs, Lohr came up for the second time in the inning and blasted a triple into the gap to score two more runs and cap off one of Centre's most explosive innings of the entire season with an 8-0 lead.
- The Lynx got a run back in the third with a pair of doubles and threatened in the fifth after the first two hitters walked, but
Tommy Severson came on in relief and retired the side in order without a baserunner advancing.
- In the eighth, Lohr continued his outstanding game as he lined a two-out single to left and stole second. Austin walked to keep the inning alive and Lopez lined one up the middle for a base hit to make it 9-1.
- Severson retired the last nine hitters he faced to wrap up the game, earning his seventh victory of the season after pitching five no-hit innings of relief.

The Colonels will return to action on Saturday at 4:30 PM ET. Centre's opponent will be the survivor of two elimination games, first Oglethorpe vs. Trinity and then the winner of that game vs. Rhodes.
