Springfield, Ohio - After a convincing win on opening night, Centre Women's Soccer made it two straight with a 2-0 win at Wittenberg on Friday night.
Centre nearly grabbed a lead in the 7th minute of play as
Aida Bell fired a shot that beat the Wittenberg keeper but drilled the crossbar and deflected away.
Zara McCarthy was denied twice in the 10th and 23rd minutes.
Claire Cavacini nearly had her first goal of the year in between but was also turned away. Although the game was scoreless, Centre had control through the half and into the final 45.
Wittenberg's only shot attempt of the night came in the 59th minute, but the ball sailed well wide of
Madeline Redmon in goal and was no threat.
Centre's pressure finally broke through in the 75th minute as
Ellery Taylor took a perfect cross from
Tessa Miles and swiftly headed it to the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. Moments later,
Zara McCarthy made it two goals in two games to double the Colonel lead. The defense finished the night off with another clean sheet. It marks the first time since 2017 that the Colonels have not allowed a goal in its first two games of the season.
The Colonels finished the night with a 12-1 overall shot edge, including 7-0 on goal. The offense also drew 8 corners to 3 for the Tigers.
The Colonels return home on Sunday to face a tough challenge as #2 Emory, the 2025 NCAA Runner-Up, comes to Amend Field. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm and will be streamed live on FloCollege.
