KENOSHA, Wis. – It was a quick turnaround for Centre volleyball after last night's late finish against Carthage as the Colonels faced Wartburg and Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a doubleheader. Centre completed the weekend sweep of the tournament, defeating Wartburg 3-2 and UWSP 3-1 to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Game 1: Centre 3, Wartburg 2
- The opening set saw the Colonels grab the early lead and then use a 7-1 run midway through to give themselves a cushion at 20-12. Centre scored the final four points of the set to win 25-15, capped off by an ace from
Kendra Christopher.
- In the second set, the Knights held the lead for the majority of the contest, leading by as many as six points at 17-11. Centre chipped away at the deficit and used a 7-0 run to storm into the lead as
Elle B Smith delivered three aces during the rally. Centre earned a hard-fought 25-22 win after
Mia Casi blocked the final Wartburg attack.
- The third set saw both teams trade the lead back and forth before Wartburg scored six in a row midway through to take the lead for good. The Knights scored the final five points to win 25-17 and stay alive.
- The fourth set unfolded in a similar fashion as Wartburg pulled ahead midway through the frame to take a lead that they would not relinquish. The Knights scored three straight points to push the match to the limit with a 25-18 win.
- Both teams held brief leads in the fifth set before Centre broke an 8-8 tie with a 5-0 spurt that featured two kills from
Syd Bietz, two kills from Casi and an ace from Smith. Wartburg fought off two match points before
Abby Swartz put home the final kill on a 15-11 win for the Colonels.
Game 2: Centre 3, Wisconsin-Stevens Point 1
- The Colonels held a small lead for most of the first set before breaking a tie with five straight points to go up 19-14. Centre led 23-20 when UWSP rallied to score the final five points and take a 25-23 win.
- Centre controlled the second set from the onset, scoring five of the first six points and never looking back. The Pointers could get no closer than three points the rest of the way as the Colonels evened the match with a 25-16 win after an ace from
Campbell Miles and a winning kill by Casi.
- The third set featured multiple lead changes and ties before Centre used an 8-1 run to go up 17-12. UWSP cut the margin to a single point twice in the late stages, but Centre had an answer each time as Smith secured the 25-23 win with the closing kill.
- The Colonels never trailed in the fourth set as they hit their highest percentage in a set for the weekend at .226. Centre eventually pulled away to a 25-15 victory to win the match, with Christopher delivering the finishing kill.

The Colonels will return to action on Sept. 12 with a tri-match on the road against Earlham and Illinois Wesleyan.
