Les Steckel joined the Centre football staff in the winter of 2021.

Steckel joined the Colonels after over 45 years of coaching. He was the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings in the early 1980s, and also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans, serving as the offensive coordinator for the Titans in 1999 when they reached Super Bowl XXXIV. As offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay, Steckel helped the Bucs set a franchise record for most points in a season up to that point.

In the college ranks, Steckel has worked at a number of Division I programs - most notably at the University of Colorado - and had 15 student-athletes selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.Â
