Tyler Covey joined the Colonels Men's Lacrosse coaching staff in the Fall of 2024 as an assistant coach.
Prior to this position, Covey served as the CCBC Essex Knights Head Men's Lacrosse Coach and Offensive Coordinator (2021-2024). During his recent two-year stint as Head Coach (2023-2024), his team made back-to-back NJCAA National Final Four appearances, won the Maryland Region 20 NJCAA Championship, and made it to the National Championship game. Covey coached 8 All-Americans and was named the 2024 Maryland Region 20 NJCAA Coach of the Year and CCBC Essex Men's Coach of the Year. During Covey's two seasons serving as Offensive Coordinator (2021-2022), the Knights led the NJCAA in goals, assists, and shots. In his second year with the Knights, they were second in the NJCAA in goals per game (17.54). Covey coached six All-Americans in those two years at Essex. He previously served as an assistant coach at Mount St. Joseph High School (Baltimore, Md.) after graduating college.
Covey has spent time coaching the USA U19 Brogden Cup team playing in the Championship vs Team Canada (2018), Rock Lacrosse Club (2017-2019), and Team 91 MD (2013-2016). He was the Head Coach for a 2026 box lacrosse team, Crease (2020-2024), and was the Recruiting Coordinator and Head Coach for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 Team Lacrosse PA club team in York, PA (2019-2024).
A graduate of Florida Institute of Technology with a degree in Global Management and Finance (2019), Covey played attack and midfield for the Panthers men's lacrosse team, an NCAA Division II school. He averaged 2.8 points per game during his career and made the Sunshine State Conference All-Freshman Team after culminating 25 points as a freshman in 13 games.
Prior to Florida Tech, Covey prepped at Loyola Blakefield (class of 2015). He was a three-sport student-athlete, as a member of the football, wrestling, and lacrosse team. Played club lacrosse for Fearless Lacrosse Club and WAX rec.
He was born in Finksburg, MD and currently resides in Danville, KY.
