Who was your favorite teacher growing up and why?
It would have to be my fourth grade teacher Mrs. Maguet. She taught me things that I will take with me for the rest of my life. I wouldn''t be the writer I am today without her; she showed me what I want my classroom to look like five years from now.
Other than hard work, what is the one thing you wish to give back to Centre soccer?
I hope to give back memories that the girls around me will remember for the rest of their lives, I want to make more than just teammates, I want friends for life. I want Centre soccer to be a part of my wedding, my bridesmaids. I hope to be able to give them rings during my career here and travel the world with them. I want to give Centre soccer time, because we are only here for such a short while.
What is your favorite inspirational movie?
It would have to be Kicking and Screaming. I know it sounds childish but has so many lessons: team work, height doesn''t matter (I''m short), winning isn''t everything (as long as you left it all on the field), and to remember why you play. You play for the love of the game and for the people who have put in the work around you for one common goal, a ring.
What is your favorite motivational song before a game?
A song that has motivated me for years would be I won''t Back Down by Tom Petty, but no one would play that so the next one would have to be Lose Yourself by Eminem.
What is one interesting fact that people would be surprised to know about you?
I played football for my middle school in seventh grade as the kicker, and we won city that year. I started a tradition of girls being on the team from then on.
If you could eat only one food, what would it be?
I would eat dry noodles.
What is your favorite soccer moment?
I have won a few state championships with a few different teams, but I will never forget my eighth grade year when my L.F.C. team FINALLY beat javanon in PKs, and then I was rushed to the emergency room because someone pushed my goalie on top of me during a corner in the first 15 minutes of the game. Her teeth went into my head, and I had to get nine staples. It was a long game, and by the end my hair was completely red.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
After graduation, I hope to either become an art therapist for special education or become an elementary teacher at Lansdowne Elementary. I plan to get married under a big tree outside, have four kids and live in the house I''ve planned on Pinterest.
If there was one thing you wish you could learn to do, what would it be?
I''m sure there''s something better, but I wish I could learn to cook like my mom because I can''t cook to save my life.
Why did you choose Centre?
I chose Centre because it''s the one place I can call home and be away from my family. I don''t have to go home in order to feel secure because of all the friends that I''ve made in just the short time that I''ve been here. I don''t just have one identity, I am Mackenzie Nichols; I am a student at Centre College; I am a member of the women''s soccer team; and hopefully I will be in a sorority as well. I chose Centre because I can have the best of both worlds, play soccer and build an excellent foundation for the rest of my life.
