Dunn's Historic Pair of Goals Pace Centre to 4-0 Win over Spalding

Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) – Sophomore midfielder Harrison Dunn (Lexington, Ky.) scored two goals just 31 seconds apart to lead the Centre men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Spalding in a non-conference game Sunday night at Hillside Field. Dunn's goals are tied for 14th in NCAA Division III history for fastest consecutive goals by the same player.

In addition, the Colonels' three goals in a span of 2:10 rank 10th in NCAA Div. III history for fastest three consecutive goals by the same team.

Not only did Dunn etch his name into the NCAA record books with the pair of goals, but it also marked the first goals of his career.

He found the back of the net at the 37:16 mark of the first half on the assist by sophomore defender Jesse DiLuzio (North Woodmere, N.Y.) to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead, before striking again with 37:47 showing on the clock to extend the Centre lead to 3-0. Dunn's goals were the fastest consecutive goals by the same player since Methodist's Nahom Hargwoin scored two goals 28 seconds apart on November 2, 2013.

Sophomore midfielder Brandon Schweder (Lexington, Ky.) scored his first career goal in the 35th minute on the feed by freshman midfielder Jacob Haddad (Brentwood, Tenn.) to put the Colonels on the board.

In the second half, junior forward Jacob Winkler (Danville, Ky.) notched his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute with the assist by sophomore forward Noah Wesley-Chevalier (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior forward Christian Gateskill (Danville, Ky.) to push the Centre advantage to 4-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) played between the pipes for the Colonels, making three saves in the win.

Centre improves to 4-4-1 with the win, while the Golden Eagles drop to 4-6-0 on the year.

The Colonels held advantages of 27-7 in shots and 11-3 in shots on goal in the win.

Spalding is coached by former Centre standout Adam Boyer, who was an NSCAA Second Team All-American for the Colonels in 2008. Boyer ranks eighth in Centre program history with 74 games played. He also served as an assistant coach for the Colonels for three seasons before taking over at Spalding in 2012. Former Colonel James Kusak is an assistant coach on Boyer's staff, as well.

Centre returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Wabash at 7 p.m. at Hillside Field.

Game Notes

The Colonels are no strangers to the NCAA Division III record book, as Centre has posted several noteworthy performances over the years.

-Ben Van Nevel's goal 11 seconds into the game against Sewanee on September 27, 2009 is tied for the eighth-fastest goal to start a game in NCAA Division III history.

-Centre owns the NCAA Division III record for fastest consecutive goals by the same team, when Mike Weckenbrock and Alex Marsden scored two goals just five seconds apart against Rose-Hulman on Sept. 29, 2002. The Colonels are also tied with FIU for the NCAA record across Divisions I-III for fastest consecutive goals by the same team.

-Centre ranks third in NCAA Division III history with 21 goals in a game in a 21-0 win over Fisk on October 23, 1993. In the same game, the Colonels tallied 57 points, good for sixth in NCAA Division III history.

-The Colonels and Trinity (Texas) rank 11th in NCAA Division III history for fastest consecutive goals by opposing teams, set on September 17, 2000. Centre's Tanner Wann found the back of the net first, before Trinity's Josh Smith scored just 18 seconds later.
