Man of the Match - Noah Wesley-Chevalier

DANVILLE Ky. – Centre men's soccer continued their hot streak with a victory over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Sewanee, 2-0, on Senior Night at Amend Field.

The Colonels improve to 10-4-2 overall and 5-0-2 in conference play, remaining unbeaten in six straight matches, while the Tigers fall to 8-7 and 4-3 in the SAA.

Before the game, Centre celebrated the careers of seniors Brad Nordin (Paintsville, Ky.), Josiah Farley (Versailles, Ky.), Jesse DiLuzio (North Woodmere, N.Y.), Harrison Dunn (Lexington, Ky.), John Herd (Colorado Springs, Co.), Noah Wesley-Chevalier (Cincinnati), Ian Williams (Versailles, Ky.), Brandon Schweder (Lexington, Ky.) and Caleb Vogel (Shelbyville, Ky.).

Neither team could gain any momentum until midway through the first half when Wesley-Chevalier found the back of the net in the 26th minute off of a Royce Pope (Tampa, Fla.) helper, giving the Colonels a 1-0 advantage. The senior striker slotted home the goal despite a narrow angle to the goal.

In the 39th minute, sophomore Nick Mazzarella (Danielson, Conn.) gathered the ball, made a defender miss and finished with his left foot, extending the Colonels' lead to 2-0. Sophomore Carson Hart (Hickory N.C.) assisted on the play.

Centre continued to thwart the Tigers attack in the second half, limiting them to zero shots in the final 45 minutes of play.

The Colonels finished with 12 shots to the visitors' two, and had three corners to the Tigers' two.

Junior keeper Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) turned aside the only two shots the Tigers put on goal, earning his seventh clean sheet.

With a win, Centre secured the No. 2 seed in the SAA Tournament and will host a quarterfinal match next Saturday at Amend Field. The complete SAA Tournament bracket will be release Sunday at noon.
