Â
On TapÂ
- Centre returns home to host SAA associate-member Trinity for a noon kickoff in Farris Stadium.
Â
Series HistoryÂ
- Trinity leads the all-time series over Centre, 15-10, but the Colonels have won two in a row, including last season by a 27-21 final in Texas.
- The last meeting in Danville was Homecoming back in 2012, as the Colonels defeated the Tigers 31-14.
- The two programs were former competitors in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), and each represented the league in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.Â
Â
The Last MeetingÂ
Centre 27, Trinity 21 (10.14.17)Â
- Leading 27-7 heading into the fourth quarter, the Colonels held off a late rally from the Tigers to earn a conference victory in San Antonio.
-
Colin Burnam and
Trevor Carnell each eclipsed 100 yards on the ground, with the latter recording two touchdowns.Â
-
Alec Fontaine's 11 tackles led Centre's defensive effort, followed by nine apiece from
John Wilson and
Jaylen Jones.
Â
Last Time OutÂ
- Centre came off a bye week and defeated Austin, 38-20, down in Sherman, Texas, last Saturday.
- While not the cleanest game the Colonels have played this year, the offense still managed 38 points behind a pair of touchdown runs from Burnam and two TD passes from
Tanner Young.
-
Ben Logsdon also added 12 points and matched his career best with a 39-yard field goal.Â
- Rookie
Carter Smith had a strong game defensively, totaling seven tackles (six solo).
Connor John also had seven tackles, including an 11-yard sack and a quarterback hurry.
-
Nate Johnson picked off an Austin pass, and
Luc Gendreau recovered a fumble for the Colonels.
Â
Logsdon's Leg
- The aforementioned Centre placekicker set the program record with his 114th point-after against Austin, passing former Colonel Jordan Gay.Â
- Logsdon was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal tries against the Roos, connecting from 39, 28 and 21 yards.
Â
Scouting the Tigers
 - Trinity hangs its hat on having the SAA's second-best scoring defense, allowing just 15.2 points per game thus far. The Tigers' rush defense has been vulnerable, however, allowing 175 yards per game (7th in the SAA).Â
- Although they have a middle-of-the-pack scoring offense (26.4 ppg), the Tigers have capitalized on red zone chances and limited mistakes. They rank 11th and 14th in red zone offense and turnover margin, respectively, in NCAA Division III.
- Wyatt Messex has connected on 54% of his passes this season, accounting for eight TDs and just one interception. On the ground, Evan McDowell leads the way with 79.2 yards-per-game and three scores.Â
- Nic Hover and Robert Kuhne lead the defense with 31 tackles each.
Next Week
- Centre travels to Memphis, Tenn., to meet Rhodes Oct. 20.
- The Colonels hold a 47-23-2 all-time series record against the Lynx, winning each of the last four matchups.Â
- Last season, Centre won a shootout on Homecoming, defeating Rhodes by a 42-35 score.
