Colonels earn second straight SAA victory, defeat Millsaps 5-0

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's soccer won the battle and the war against the visiting Millsaps Majors Friday evening inside Amend Field.

The Colonels (9-4-1, 2-2-1 SAA) were tenacious fairly early, scoring within the first five minutes of the match to immediately put pressure on the Majors (3-9-1, 1-4).

HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre's first goal came courtesy Will Newton, who chipped the ball over the head of Millsaps' goalie and chased it down for an easy tap in.

- Alexander Garuba, reigning SAA Offensive Player of the Week, kept the fire going when he put some heat behind a shot in the 12th minute, finding the back of the net.

- Royce Pope had a powerful shot to open the second-half scoring, getting a useful feed from Garuba to make it 3-0.

- Just 19 seconds later, a slip of the foot off of a Millsaps goal kick posed a grand opportunity for Centre, as Will Newton was gifted the ball within striking distance. Seeing the opening, Newton darted the ball right back to the vacated goal bring the Colonels up 4-0.

- In the 79th minute, a shot by Pope missed the goal by mere inches, but teammate AJ Jallow was there to clean it up and take a quick shot, giving the Colonels a 5-0 lead.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre goalie Bailey Spade totaled three saves in his 10th shutout of the year, matching the program single-season record.
- The Colonels had three times the amount of SOG while outshooting the Majors overall, 15-4.
