MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre spoiled Homecoming for Rhodes Saturday afternoon, dominating the Lynx, 41-14, at Crain Field in the latest chapter of the programs' storied football rivalry.
The Colonels stifled Rhodes' quarterback PJ Settles for much of the game, and got four touchdown passes from their own signal caller,
Tanner Young, to improve to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the SAA. The Lynx dropped to 4-3 and 2-3 in-conference.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Both defenses had strong opening drives, but midway through the first quarter Young hit
Eric Niemann for a 16-yard touchdown to open the scoring.
- Rhodes looked ready to answer with a big pass play down field from Settles to Josh Lucas on the next drive, but
Cal Lewellyn punched the ball loose and
Nate Johnson recovered to stop any momentum from the home team.

Colin Burnam ran into the endzone on the next play.
- The Colonels scored on their next possession, as well, as Young found Niemann again down the seam on a 49-yard passing touchdown.
- It took Rhodes 13 plays, but the home team finally cracked the scoreboard just before the half on Settles' short pass to Charlie Mackey.
- With just 1:35 left on the clock before halftime, Centre quickly marched down the field and scored on Young's third passing touchdown of the game. The senior hit classmate
Mack Cox for a 13-yard TD.
- Centre received the ball to open the second half and all but put the game out of reach with another touchdown drive. Carnell hit paydirt on a 3-yard rushing TD to cap the possession.
- Lewellyn came up big again for Centre's defense, picking off Settles and returning the interception 19 yards.
