DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball out-played Meredith in the second half Friday evening, winning their season opener in the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic by a 59-48 margin in Alumni Gym.
The Colonels (1-0) trailed the visiting Avenging Angels (0-3) by one at the halftime break, but were +12 across the final 20 minutes to win their second season opener in a row.

Madison Marcum opened the scoring with a 3-point basket on Centre's second possession.
- The Colonels led 9-3 midway through the period, but Meredith bounced back and leveled the game at 11-11 by the end of the first quarter.
- The second quarter followed a similar script, as the Avenging Angels negated an early deficit to climb back and take a 21-20 lead at the half.
- Marcum sparked a big third quarter for the hosts, as Centre nearly doubled its output from the first half and out-scored Meredith, 18-10. Marcum hit consecutive threes early in the period to regain the lead for the Colonels.
- Leading 38-37 in the fourth, Centre went on a 12-2 run to take its first double-digit advantage of the contest.
Kylee Murray and
Madison Rice provided 3-pointers during the stretch, which helped the Colonels put the Avenging Angels away.

Kat Wilson led the Colonels with 12 points and added seven rebounds, while Marcum finished with 10 points.

Abigail Stewart had eight points and seven boards, and
Abigail Wehby led the team with four assists.
- Nine individuals scored for the Colonels, who shot 43.5% (20-46) from the field and hit 5 of 10 from long range. Meredith went just 14-for-46 (30.4%) from the floor overall.
- Centre finished with a decided edge in bench points (21-2), points in the paint (28-12) and points off turnovers (15-3).
