Â
On TapÂ
- Centre celebrates Senior Day with a Southern Athletic Association meeting against Sewanee, set for a 1:30 p.m. ET kick from Farris Stadium.
Â
Series HistoryÂ
- The Colonels hold a 42-30-1 record versus Sewanee all-time, having won each of the last 12 meetings.
- Centre defeated Sewanee by a lopsided 47-0 margin last year in Tennessee, and have outscored the Tigers 162-20 over the last four seasons.
Â
The Last MeetingÂ
Centre 47, Sewanee 0 (11.4.17)Â
- Centre out-gained Sewanee 520-163 in a one-sided affair last season, led by
Devin Hayes' 304 yards through the air.
Jaylon Hibbs was the primary receiving threat for the Colonels, finishing with five catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.
- The Colonels led 10-0 after one quarter, thanks in part to
John Wilson's 61-yard touchdown on a blocked field goal scoop-and-score.
- Centre would score at least 10 in each quarter throughout the blowout, as the defense came up with four takeaways.
Â
Last Time OutÂ
- Centre turned what was a close 7-6 game in the second quarter into an eventual rout over Millsaps on Homecoming last Saturday, 49-13. The Colonels outscored their guests 35-7 in the second half.
- Facing the SAA's leading scoring defense, the Colonels managed a season-high 49 points. Senior wideout
Jaylon Hibbs went off for eight catches, 221 yards and three touchdowns (more on that below), as Centre amassed 469 yards of total offense.Â
-
Andrew Busby led all defensive players for the second weekend in a row, totaling nine tackles (seven solo).
Zach Berger was a menace up front, recording 3.5 tackles-for-loss.
Â
Record Setter
-
Jaylon Hibbs put his name in the record books against the Majors. His 221 receiving yards set a single-game program record, while his three touchdowns matched another.
- With two games left, Hibbs currently sits in a tie for the single-season receiving touchdown record (10).Â
Â
Scouting the Tigers
- Sewanee is coming off a 27-14 win against Rhodes last Saturday, and will close its 2018 season against the Colonels.
- Despite losing quarterback Alex Darras at the midway point in back-to-back seasons, the Tigers have improved their win total each of the first two years under head coach Travis Rundle. After a 0-10 record in 2016, Sewanee finished with a 3-7 mark in 2017, and has a chance to finish at the .500 mark for the first time since 2011 this season.
- This year, freshman reserve QB Grayson Baker has thrown five touchdowns and five interceptions in place of the injured Darras. His primary target, Micah Maes, is among the SAA leaders with 497 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
- Defensively, Luke Menefee leads the league with 79 total tackles, adding two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
- As a team, Sewanee is seventh in the SAA in scoring offense (21.2 ppg) and sixth in scoring defense (25.3)
Next Week
- Centre's final regular season game of the season is Nov. 10 at Birmingham-Southern. Kickoff from Krulak Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.Â
