DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's soccer rolled past Hendrix in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Friday evening at Amend Field, winning by a 2-0 score in the semifinals.
The fifth-ranked Colonels (18-0) will compete for their seventh SAA Tournament Championship in as many seasons with the victory over the fourth-seeded Warriors (11-7).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre seemed poised to score first with several chances early, but it wasn't until the 28th minute that
Alana Hughes put the hosts ahead. After the Hendrix keeper failed to corral a loose ball, Hughes poked the ball into the net to make it 1-0.
-
Meghan Paynter's effort early in the second half led to Centre's second goal. The junior nearly scored on a pass from
Elizabeth Nelson, instead putting away the rebound following a Hendrix save.
- The Warriors' best scoring chance came in the 68th minute on Bailey Lindsey's corner kick. Centre keeper
Sarah Stodghill grabbed the ball and was fouled to negate the opportunity.
