MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Centre women's basketball won their fourth game in a row Saturday, dropping Maryville by a 54-36 score inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
The Colonels (7-1) never trailed at any point, with a
Madison Marcum 3-pointer just 25 seconds into the game giving them a lead they would not relinquish. Marcum would go on to finish with a career-high 16 points on a 4-for-5 showing from deep.
Maryville (2-6) was stifled by Centre's defense, finishing with season lows in points, made field goals, overall shooting percentage, and assists.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre jumped out to a 17-10 lead after the opening 10 minutes, knocking down 58% (7-12) of its shots. Marcum netted eight of her 16 in the period to help solidify the advantage.
- The host Scots couldn't keep pace, missing all eight of their 3-point tries in the quarter.
- Maryville would not fare much better in the second, hitting just two of its 16 shots as Centre took a 29-18 lead into the half.
- A balanced offensive effort and continued strong defense helped Centre keep Maryville from mounting a comeback in the second half.
- Centre's biggest lead of the evening was 20 points (48-28) following
Cheyenne Bunner's free throws midway through the fourth quarter.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Scots shot a mere 20% (13-65) overall and went 2-for-22 from 3-point range. Centre has now held each of its last six opponents below 30% from the floor, and has surrendered just 44.3 points per game.
- Marcum's previous career best was 13 points scored against Earlham this past Tuesday, but her efficient 5 of 7 outing against the Scots was good for a new personal high.

Kat Wilson followed with 11 points, but 10 individuals provided points for the Colonels.

Abigail Stewart hauled in seven rebounds as Centre dominated the glass, 49-33.
Madison Rice, Mikalya Fee,
Kylee Murray and
Presley Chirico each came away with five boards.

Abigail Wehby finished with four assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
