Centre field hockey held scoreless in season opener

GAMBIER, Ohio –Centre field hockey dropped a defensive struggle in the 2018 season opener at Kenyon Friday evening, falling 1-0 at McBride Field.
The Colonels also opened 2017 with a loss to Kenyon before going on to win a program-best 17 games.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- More than an hour of gameplay passed before Kenyon's Sarah Metzmaier broke the scoreless draught, finishing off a feed from Tara Shetty
- Centre would threaten with seven shots in the final eight minutes, but Kenyon's defense held. The hosts' keeper, Maddie Lockyer, totaled nine saves in the win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre outshot Kenyon, 18-8, including a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. 
- Savannah Elpers led Centre's attack with five shots, followed by Caroline Brotzge's four.
- Junior goalie Kristen Mulcahy tallied four saves in goal. 
 
UP NEXT
The Colonels have a short turnaround before meeting Denison at 12 p.m. ET Saturday. Centre defeated the Big Red last season at home, 2-0.
