GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Centre men's soccer suffered its first defeat of the 2018 campaign Saturday afternoon, dropping a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to DePauw at Reavis Stadium.
In their first match away from home, the Colonels slip to 5-1 overall. The host Tigers improve to 4-1 and continue the trend of narrow matches between the two programs.
Centre is 6-6-3 against DePauw during the Jeb Burch era, although the Colonels had won six of the last nine decisions (with one draw) prior to Saturday.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Scoring opportunities seemed limited in the opening half, with just seven combined shots and only one on target – a
Royce Pope attempt saved by Austin Bodner.
- The deciding goal came just 80 seconds into the second half, as a Centre yellow card resulted in a DePauw penalty kick. Jay Klein found the back of the net and put the hosts up 1-0.
- Centre would get two shots on target in the second half, both of which were turned aside by Bodner. The Colonels totaled 10 fouls and five cards in the period.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Tigers' PK was the first goal allowed by
Bailey Spade and the Colonel defense all season. The last five-match shutout streak for the Colonels was delivered by Geoff Henderson back in 1995.
