Colonels bested by Sewanee in four sets

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Centre volleyball team played a rare midweek conference game when they traveled to Sewanee for a Tuesday night clash with the Tigers. Sewanee broke a 1-1 tie by winning the final two sets to take the match in four.

HIGHLIGHTS

- In a close opening set, the Tigers scored the final three points to go up 1-0 with a 25-21 victory.

- Centre bounced back with a solid performance in the second set, grabbing the early lead and holding off every Sewanee rally as Bailey Vernon put home the final kill in a 25-17 victory for the Colonels.

- Slow starts doomed the Colonels in both of the last two sets as Sewanee pulled away to identical 25-16 wins to take the match.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Savanna Roper finished with a team high six kills, followed by Peyton Vacala and Aby Dallas with five.

- Kylie Cochran had 17 of the Colonels' 24 assists in the match.

- Bailey Vernon led Centre with 11 digs, with Cochran and Vacala each adding nine.

NEXT UP

Centre will return home for a Family Weekend conference series. The Colonels will host Rhodes on Saturday and Hendrix on Sunday.
