DANVILLE, Ky. – Rainy conditions could not put a damper on the 17th-ranked Centre women's soccer team Saturday, as the Colonels cruised past Oglethorpe, 3-0, in their Southern Athletic Association opener.
Centre 8-0 (1-0 SAA) followed a familiar script in the win over the Stormy Petrels (4-4), dominating possession while limiting its opponents' attacking chances.
HIGHLIGHTS
-
Alana Hughes cleaned up a defensive gaff from the Petrels in the 14th minute, capitalizing with the game's first goal and her seventh of the season.
- With only 10 seconds on the first-half clock,
Rachael Boule doubled the Colonels' lead after gaining possession in front of the goal and netting her second score of the year.
- An Oglethorpe own goal in the second period capped the scoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Not only did the Colonels hold their opponents to under five shots-on-goal for the eighth time in eight matches this season, but they didn't even allow the Petrels to get a shot off. Centre totaled 16 shots, with 10 on target.
