Biggs, Brotzge score twice as Centre earns first victory

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre field hockey scored three second half goals and picked up its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating DePauw at South Turf Field, 5-3.

The Colonels move to 1-2 overall, while the visiting Tigers slip to 0-3. Centre avenged a 2-0 loss at DePauw last season, one of just five for the Colonels.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Savannah Elpers finished a hustle play by stealing possession just outside the arc, and eventually fed Sarah Biggs for an easy opening goal in the 7th minute.
- DePauw leveled the score in the 13th minute.
- Centre capitalized on a penalty corner midway through the period, with Caroline Brotzge scoring on a floater from distance to put Centre ahead, 2-1.
- Kate Milner redirected a pass from Gretchen Bechthold and slotted in another DePauw score, making it 2-2 at the half.
- The Colonels came out firing in the second half, getting goals from Brotzge and Elpers within seconds of each other to make it 4-2.
- DePauw made it interesting with another Milner score in the 55th minute, but Biggs tacked on a late goal from Emily Schank's helper to seal the victory.
