HANOVER, Ind. – The Centre volleyball team played in a pair of marathon contests in a tri-match at Hanover College on Saturday. The Colonels pushed both the Franklin Grizzlies and the Hanover Panthers to five sets and came away with a split, falling to Franklin before coming back with a win over Hanover.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre fell behind early against Franklin, losing the first two sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-14.
- The Colonels stormed back in the third set, taking a late lead and sealing the deal with an ace by Peyton Vacala for the 25-23 win. Centre then dominated the fourth set, jumping out to the early lead and never letting go, winning 25-17.
- In the fifth set, Hanover took the early lead and although Centre tied it at 12-12, the Colonels could not get over the hump, losing the set and the match by a score of 15-13.
- In a back and forth match against Hanover, the two teams traded the first four set victories. Hanover won the first set easily, but Centre used a strong finish to take the second set 25-20. The Panthers got off to a hot start in the third set and stayed in front for a 25-19 win, but Centre once again extended the match with a 25-22 victory.
- Both Centre and Hanover had early runs of five straight points in the fifth and final set, but the Colonels scored the last three as Kylie Cochran and Savanna Roper combined for a block on the final point of the match, capping a 15-9 Centre victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
- Vacala led Centre with 14 kills in both matches today, including a career high four aces in the match against Franklin.
- Keeley Morton and Aby Dallas each finished with ten kills in the win over Hanover, with Morton hitting at an outstanding percentage of .526. Dallas's ten kills represented a career high for the sophomore.
- In addition to the match-sealing block, Cochran finished the day with 90 assists. Her 47 assists against Hanover were one shy of a career high.
- Cochran, Vacala and Bailey Vernon all finished with double digit digs in both matches.

Centre volleyball will play in its home opener and Southern Athletic Association opener on Saturday, Sept. 15 as the Colonels will face Berry in Alumni Gym with a 2 p.m. start time.
