Majors escape with narrow 48-45 win over Colonels

JACKSON, Miss. – Centre women's basketball dropped another heartbreaker Friday evening, falling 48-45 inside the Hangar Dome at Millsaps.

The Colonels' skid extends to four games – all of which were decided by seven points or less – dropping to 9-8 overall and 2-4 in the Southern Athletic Association. The host Majors improve to 14-3 overall with a 5-1 SAA mark.

Abigail Wehby led Centre by matching a career high with 12 points, adding six rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre vaulted out of the gates, running out to a 12-4 first quarter lead while holding Millsaps without a made field goal in the opening 10 minutes.
- The Majors would get going in the second period, however, led by Anna Wilson's 12 points.
- A 20-11 swing gave Millsaps a slight 24-23 advantage at the half.
- A couple of early buckets from Wehby gave Centre the lead in the third quarter, and the Colonels would carry a 34-33 edge into the final period.
- The two sides traded fourth quarter baskets, but Millsaps held a 47-42 lead with less than a minute to play.
- Madison Rice drained a 3-pointer to pull the Colonels within two, and they regained possession down 47-45 with a chance at the final shot. A turnover would effectively end Centre's hope, however.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre held Millsaps to just 30% shooting from the field, but the Majors held a massive 34-5 advantage in free throw tries.
- Abigail Stewart and Cheyenne Bunner matched Wehby with six boards, as Centre dominated the glass with a 40-23 rebounding edge.
- The game featured 11 lead changes and four ties.
